A beautiful day for a walk in the park.

Tuesday April 14, 2015.

Swan Lake Village area,
Markham, Ontario

Wanted to get these out before the Swan's returned. Don't forget they return at 10am this Saturday!!

Swan Lake Park - April 3rd, 2015

Mallard Duck
East pond was almost clear of ice and this Mallard was swimming in the afternoon light - enjoying the sunshine.

Canada Geese
Canada Geese flying over the frozen Swan Lake.

Ring-billed Gull
There is open water along the shore on the north side and this Gull was having a nice swim.

Ring-Billed Gull
Caught this one by sheer luck as it flew past me along the north shore.

Black-cappped Chickadee
This is one of the cutest birds that we see in the village and in the park.

Great Blue Heron
Not a great shot but best I could do as he was so far away you couldn't see him with the naked eye. It was on East Shore while I was out on the point.)

Canada Goose

Black-capped Chickadee
Found another one further along in my walk around the lake.

Canada Goose
With the shackle on his neck - I wondered if this goose had escaped from prison?? Oh and yes there was a reward for information on his where abouts. I called the number on the neck device and found out that the device on his neck is a Cell Phone!! - Apparently this is one way for Environment Canada WildLife Services can track the movement of the geese in the Toronto Area.
Nope he doesn't have hands so he can't phone in his location but the device connects to the nearest Cell Phone tower and sends the location information.

House Sparrow
I think this is a female house sparrow.

Swan Lake Park - April 11, 2015

Common Merganser
Two males with the dark green heads with a female (red head) in the middle. Great to see the Ice gone from the lake and the migrating birds, like these Mergansers, resting and feeding on our lake before continuing their journey north.

Midland Painted Turtles
These turtles are basking in the warm sunlight at Turtle Inlet, far side of the lake where the bridge is.

Great Blue Heron
Again the Great Blue Heron landed on the lake too far away to see with the naked eye. Too far for me to get a good photo too.

-

Northern Cardinal
Just sitting in a tree near the north east part of the lake.

Swan Lake
Clear of Ice and beginning to look like spring.

Swan Lake Park - April 13, 2015

Northern Cardinal
Difficult shot. The Cardinal was sitting in the top of a very tall tree down by the Turtle Inlet bridge. I had to shoot straight up through all the branches to get the shot.

Swan Lake Park - April 14, 2015

Midland Painted Turtle
Sunning themselves at Turtle Inlet

Downy Woodpecker
Found this little fellow near the Turtle inlet bridge.

Saw a number of Robins and they seemed to be enjoying some tasty caterpillars.
