Mute Swans - Cygnets
Earlier this morning Art was checking on the Swans and
took the first pictures of the newly hatched Cygnets!!!

Mute Swans - 4 Cygnets
Having seen Art's picture I just had to get down to the nest and take some pictures.
Unfortunately Juliet was sitting on the nest covering the eggs and cygnets.
I waited for a while and the warm sun came out from behind the clouds and sure enough
Juliet stood up and moved to the side of the nest.
4 Cygnets and 3 unhatched eggs could be seen clearly in the sunlight.

After a while Juliet left the nest and went into the water.
From there she called to the Cygnets to come to her and the oldest (first hatched) was up to trying to go to her.
He crossed the nest but did not leave it.

Juliet returned to the nest to guard and keep the eggs and cygnets warm.

All the Cygnets must hatch within a day or two as the parents must go with the Cygnets to feed them.

Saturday looks like the best day to go for a walk to see the new Cygnets. It should be warmer than today and all the Cygnets should be out of the nest feeding in the lake for part of the day.
