A beautiful day for a walk in the park. |
Tuesday July 09, 2013. Swan Lake Village area, Markham, Ontario |
|
I've included some photos taken by Arthur Henschel in Swan Lake Park which he submitted to the Swan Lake Camera Clubs on July 2nd. In addition I've included some pictures taken between July 3rd and July 9th in Swan Lake Park and Swan Lake Village |

Swan Lake Park - July 3rd |
Juvenile Mallard Ducks / Mute Swan |
These young Mallard Ducks have been raiding the Swan Feeding Station to steal the Swan's food. They are so bold they climb into the feeder and sometimes literally take the food while Romeo and Juliet are feeding |
Swan Lake Park - July 5th |
Caspian Tern |
I love to watch this Tern as it dives for fish from 30 feet in the air. If you see it flying over the lake, take a moment and watch him as it is quite entertaining to see it dive from a high altitude into the water and then burst forth from under the water with a fish in it's bill and take to the air again. The very large orange bill and black cap make it easy to identify it. |
Black-Crowned Night Heron |
This juvenile was perched on a log in plain sight from the bridge at Turtle inlet. When it matures it will have black feathers on top, a white breast with grey/black wings. |
Swan Lake Village - July 5th |
Squirrel |
This squirrel was raiding the bird feeder on our deck and was so bold that it kept raiding it despite the fact we were sitting only 8 feet away. |
Here is a close up of it on top of the feeder. |
Swan Lake Village - July 9th |
American Gold Finch |
These birds love the niger seed I put out for them. This is a nice shot of a female on the upper perch and the male on the lower perch. |
Song Sparrow |
This Song Sparrow coming in for a landing at the feeder. It is actually aiming at the same perch as the Gold Finch is on, thus driving the Gold Finch away. |
American Gold Finch |
Another male trying to land on the bird feeder but having troubles as the female doesn't want him to land. |
