A beautiful day for a walk in the park.

Sunday September 16, 2012.

Swan Lake Village area,
Markham, Ontario

Pictures from Sept 9th to Sept 16th of birds that are often seen on Swan Lake and two incredible shots of Romeo.

Reesor's Pond - Sept 9, 2012

Pied-billed Grebe
In August and september you can see these tiny hunters fishing on Swan Lake.
This very tiny bird, like the much larger Cormorants and Loons, dives for fish. It is so small and shy of humans that it is very hard to get close enough to take a good shot. However at Reesor's pond I can usually get a bit closer to them.

Swan Lake - Sept 11

Mute Swan
Romeo, Juliet and the cygnets out for a family swim.

Swan Lake Park - Sept 15

Mute Swan
Time for the noon feeding of the Swans.

Reesor's Pond - Sept 16

Dragonfly
As far as mosquitos are concerned this is our best defence against them.
I keep trying to get a picture of these on the fly but they are very difficult to take a picture of.

Monarch Butterfly
Snapped this picture on the fly. I love the colors.

Pied-billed Grebe
Another shot of the Pied-Billed Grebe.

Swan Lake Park - Sept 16th

Mute Swan
Romeo having a bath in the lake. He seems to be enjoying this but he looks like he is practicing his martial arts.

Double-crested Cormorant
These two have been fishing in Swan Lake for a while now and usually can been seen sunning on the Island near the pier.

Great Blue Heron
As we were walking along the path between the east pond and Swan Lake we saw this Great Blue Heron fly over the path towards Swan Lake.
