A beautiful day for a walk in the park.

Pictures taken on Aug 19th and 24th

Swan Lake Park - Aug 19th

Mute Swan
Around 11:30am the cygnets were in the feeding station waiting for one of the wonderful volunteers to feed them.

Great Blue Heron
The Great Blue Heron has been hanging around the Swan feeding station lately and can usually be seen from the pier at the entrance to the park. Art noticed that the catfish were being attracted to the feeding station by the swan's food and I think the Heron is hoping to catch a few of the cat fish.

Same shot but just a little enlarged and cropped.

Mute Swan / Great Blue Heron
I thought you might enjoy this shot of the Swan feeding station with the Heron and the Swans.

Human
Art is one of our most dedicated volunteers who look after the Swans.

Mallard Duck
This little fellow has grown a lot over the last few weeks and is not shy about getting right into the swan's feeding trough to get any left overs the cygnets might have left.

Gold Finch
We noticed this apparently young Gold Finch that couldn't get back to the nest. He was sitting in the grass beneath a tree on Sanctuary Way.

Another view of the same Gold Finch showing more of the tail and wing detail.

Swan Lake Park - Aug 24th

Canada Goose
As the summer comes to an end we are seeing more and larger flights of geese over the lake.

Snapping Turtle
We do have Snapping Turtles in the lake. Tim and I found this fellow at the top of the hill on the side of the path. It is probably only a few days old and in the process of trying to find it's way to water.

Finally the Snapping Turtle makes it to the water and swims for the first time in it's life.
